_ Wellington, January 29. Shortly after 3 am. a fire was diecovered m Arrowsmlth's fruit shop, Lambton Quay. Both this and Lindsay's boot shop adjoining were gutted, and the (Jipp on the other side was a good deal damaged. Arrowamith, who slept on the premises. Fays he was awakened by bearing articles falling m Lindsay's shop, but smoke was first Been iesulng from the fruit shop. The build toga are supposed to ba Insured for £1,300, but no particulari are yet known. Later. The insurances on this morning's fire were : Buildings— Equitable, £400 ; Victoria, £200 ; Union, £200 ; South British, £200. Lindsay's stock and plant, Colonial £700 ; re-Insured for £200 In the New Zealand ; Standard, £500 ; Guardian, £600 ; National, £300 ; Victoria, £400 ; Phoenix, £250. Mr Lindsay estimates his loss at £1000 or £1500 above the Insurance. Arrowamith, fruiterer, stock, £400 ; furniture, £50, m the Northern Assurance Company. The damage to Scott's building is estimated at £200", and he is Insured m the Colonial for £800 ; (reinsured for £500 m the London and Lancashire) and for £300 m the New Zealand. Mr Holloway, who slept upstairs on Lindsay's premises had a narrow escape. He estimates his personal loss at £91. . .
