THE FLOODS IN QUEENSLAND.

Brisbane, January 25,
The police rescued hundreds of persons cut off by the floods, and did so in despite of the darkness and the heavy gale blowing. Several people are still missing, and communication with the suburbs is now chiefly by boats across the flood waters.
During the gale two steamers broke from their moorings, and one went ashore at Warwick. The river rose 30ft, and there is 4ft of water in the Government offices, Thousands of sheep have been drowned on the Canning Downs, Toolburra, and other station?,
Howard, Smith and Sons' s.s. Barrabool was washed ashore in Brisbane river to-day. A boat which was lowered from the vessel was swamped; and two occupants were drowned. The Barrabool has since been floated off without damage.

Sydney, January 26 Heavy rain continues over the country. Great floods are reported in the north at Upper Richmond, Considerable damage has been done, and many penons have been rescued at imminent peril.
