The Auckland correspondent of the Post, writing under date 19 h last says: — Thero hive been a number of nanovr escapes frcm drowning m the harbor lately, and two gallant reaction deserve to be recorded. Yesterday morning a youth named Pelley, while on the beach at Bt Mary's Bay, Ponsonby, saw a boy rtrnggling m the water about 100 yards off Ho at once pushed off m a boat to the roßOue, It wai ooly the work of n moraont to throw off his coat, and over he weDt afior thi lhtle fellow, and after a pouple nf imffootual dives, owing to its being moro guesswork as to tbo whßroabont of the sunken body, a third and prolonged effort vtbb happily successful, Pet ley reappeared with the (□senslblei boy m bis arms. He was prorop;ly hung across the thwart and tho water pressed out of him, and by Iho time the shore was reached the boy could speak. It turned out he was tho 11 year old son of James Glare, boatbuilder, and had taken tho b"at out into deep water and overbalanced himself and fallen overboa! d. la the other case Wilfred Harbntf, a sevon-year old boy, ha<3 taken a dive from a boat at Cheltenham bench, at North Shore, and being unable to swim was m danger of drowning. Other two youngsters of about the came age, who wero m tl o boat net up lusty crl< H for hu!p, and m reeponao a you h nam-d Fred. Uubbard, son of Mr Hubbnrd, 0. X , bor^ down m hia boat to the roscuo. Meanwhile (he struggling boy m thho water had sunk t«rice, and young Ilubba d, without waiting iven to doff his OJit leapt In, and catchiug hoH > ' h m took him eafely to shore. Both rescu ri were about 15 years old, ani are warmly commended for their pluck.
