+ A Fatal Accident. Wellington, January 24. A f*tol acoident ocenrred here jast before 11 *,m. at Hogman'a bulk store, Larabton Quay. The lift was Bent up with • light load and upon reaohlng the «eoond floor the chain broke. In the lift were a boy and a man, named William Kitchen. The former escaped with a few brnirfeo, but the latter waa horribly mangled and died Instantly. Both hlo thigh* were broken, his Btomach torn open, and he received a ghastly wound on the head. It is not at present qui'e clear how Kitchen came to be killed ■while the boy wan merely brultied, bat probably he waa crushed against the timbers m hie descent. Drowned. Christohukoh, Janoary 24 This morning Leonard Thomas Pavitt, Bged 17, son of F. Pavitt, mor oh ant, waa drowned m the river Heatboote while bathing near Wilsons bridge. He wbs nnable to swim, was washed off his legs and carried Into a doep p^ol, The body was recovered half an hour after. Life was extinct.
