BATHING IN THE DOMAIN.

TO THE EDITOB. Sib,— lt appears that more bathing ia going on m the Domain than is generally supposed. Until I read the letters of " New Chum" aud V One of the Boys," I did not kn^ that men were m the habit o£ batuiug there ia the early morning. My previous leltjr referred to boys and larrikins bathing, stark naked, m th« Domain m the afternoon and evening. No persoo, however, has a right to bathe m the Domain at any time, and anybody caught doing 60 ought to be prosecuted. The Domain was set aside as a reoreation ground for the inhabitants of the district, and it is so held m trust ; and the very considerable sum of public money which was recently spent m improving the ornamental water there was certainly not expended m order to provide facilities for the washing and bathing of men and toys, who are too lazy to walk to the river for that purpose. " New Ohum" and " One of the Boys 1 ' think only of their own gratification, and forget that, if bathing is once permitted m the Domain, the ladies of Ashburton will be virtually excluded from the prettiest spot of the only public pleasure ground m the town. The gratuitous insult cast upon the people of Ashbnrton by " New Ohum" m his letter Bhows his utter want of regard for anybody but himself. I think the police should attend to this important matter,— l am, Ac, BtTBOBSS,
