LONGBEACH ROAD BOARD
A meeting of the Board was htld on I ' Friday— Present— MeasraJ. Grug(Ohair- [ man), J. Daves, J. Williams, J. Bishop and S. Chapman. CORBRBPONDBKCJE. A letter Was received from Messrs Bellamy and Remington stating that they had omitted to include extra length for fords m their tender. —The Board decided that they could not make any alteration after tender had been accented. WaTERTON OEMIIERY. The Surveyor stated that the Boird h*d been advised that they had no potter to give grants m aid to Cemetery Boards. It was resolved to acquaint Mr T. Taylor with the advioe. surtbyor's rbfort. The Surveyor's roport was read as follows:— Wilson's road, n^ar mouth of river. — In company with Mr Bishop, we inspected the two roads leading towa ds the- mouth of the river. The one to the north is of no use for giving access to Mr Wilson as it does n>t conneot with hia aection. With regard *o the lower road, we have invited tendoro for doing two portions, the one being the big oatting giving access to the seotion, the other for making road passable further on to the riverbed. For the general publio it Is of little use doing one without the other. The first-mentioned wlil, of oonrse, satisfy the applioant. We may state that at present there are no fund* for the work. (2) Shepherd's road.— The oonst'uot for metalling from aide drain is beintj pro oeeded with and will be finshed shortly. (3) Longheaeh road.— The metalling of portion between Dawson's road and Wftterton road is just upon completion —the portion near Willowby is also being proceeded with though not satisfactorily, a portion has been condemmed on account of the qaaniity of earth with the shingle. (4) Surveyor's road.— The contractor is at work metalling this road. We invited tenders for repairing and re-erecting bridges on this road nnd as authorised at last meeting the Chairman accepted a tender at £16 for the work.— The erection of ihe large bridge has been completed; (6) Boundary road —The contractors are ezpeoting to have this work compV* ! s. week. (6) Graham's road. — The metalling of this road is completed : We have let the (fearing out of drain, brought before the Boprd by Mr Griffiths at last meeting. <7) Pomp.— We have had a Californian pump made and have also procured the necessary home power. Clause 1. — Consideration was postponed till the annual nveting of ratepayers, tenders \,o bo returned unopened
Clause 3. — BoarJ approved of Surveyor's action, and stated that*no payments would be imdo on shingling contraota unless quantity and quality specified was put on the road.
Clause 4 — The Surveyor was Instructed to extend the contract to the cross road.
The remaoder of the report wai adopted. —
OffAIMOSS BOAD. The Surveyor was instructed to met* the peaty places on this road.
WINBIOW ROAD. A oalvert on this road was ordered to bo taken up. INSURANCE. Ft was decided to alter lmuranoe on •fficea, &c, to £300, and etables to £50 BIRD NUfSANCB. Resolved to write to the Upper Ashburton Road B:ard nskitig If they wonH ba wllliug to contribute half coat towards taking birds heads and eggs from Tinwald Town Diß'rict. TAYMRNTa Af^er passing accounts to the amount of £254 83 lid, the Board adjourned to Friday, Mtrch ,11th.
