(JRiceived January 18, 1.10 pm) London. January JIS,A terrible sensation has been caused by the death of Lord Iddesleigh, and wild rumors have been m circulation as to the cause of death. The facts are that Lord Randolph Churchill has for some time past been m open strife with Lord Iddesleigh. .This considerably affected the veteran politician, and the latest efforts of the youngest members of the Conservative parly to sbunt him from the Cabinet led to the development of an acute form of nervous agitation. Lord Iddesleigh strongly objected to lower his political status, and as a protest against the treatment which his lordship had received, his son, Sir H. Northcote, resigned his position as SurveyorGeneral of Ordnance when Lord Iddesleigh was removed from the Foreign Office to give place to the Hon. E. Stanhope. His Lordship was offered the choice of the post of a Lord of the Prwy Council or President of the Council. Both positions Lord Iddesleigh declined, and openly avowed that he would not enter the Salisbury Ministry. This determined action on the part of his Lordship was not anticipated by Lord Salisbury, who requested Lord Iddesleigh to grant him an interview m order to discuss the situation. It was at the close of that interview that the tragic end came. During the interview Lord Iddesleigh displayed greater excitement than was his wont, and while m the heat of discussion he suddenly faltered, fell back, and died almost instantly.
