AFFAIRS IN AFGHANISTAN.
Calcutta, January 16. News from Afghanistan reports that the Ghilzai tribes have again defeated the regiments of the Ameer's troops, near Ghuznee, and that there are signs that preparations are being made for a fresh rising m the spring.
(Received January 18th, noon ) A BISHOPRIC DECLINED. London, January 17The Rev. F. W. Goodwyn, vicar of St. Andrews, Harrow, Sheffield, who accepted the vacant bishopric of Bathurst, N.S.W., has npw withdrawn his acceptance of the. appointment.
