SPECIAL MEETING.
MOUNT SOMBBS TRAMWAY. A special meeting of tho Oounoil was then held for the purpose of confirming a special order, passed at last meeting, adopting the provisions < i the Loo il Bodies Act as regarding the raising of a loan for the purpose of constructing a tramway at Mount Somara. The special order was confirmed, and the seal of the Council attached to the document. A letter wai read from the Colonla Treasurer stating that the Council's application for a loan of £3500 for the construction of a tramway at Mount Somers would be granted provisionally on the terms of the Aot being complied with. Mr Peaohe wrote Btating that the petition required by the Act would be forwarded m a few days. A Committee consisting of Messrs Harpet, McLean, and Wright was ap- j pointed to report on the petition. ABHBORTON FOIIKS RIVER RATE. A special order levying the Ashburton , Forks river rate was adopted. . ADJOURNMENT. , This was all the business and the > Council adjourned to February 4. j
