"DEFERRING to the above, I have j[\j much pleasure m intimating to the residents of Aehburton and surrounding district that I have deoided to settle m ABhburton, and hope by atrict attention to business to merit the same favorable support which has been extended to my brother. The Ashburton Tweeds being quite equal, and m some respects superior to imported goodß, I will Bupport the local industry bb fir as the requirements of buaines9 will permit. Fit, Style, and Wokkma.>ship guaeanteed. HUGHC. CRAIGHEAD. Aahburtoa, January Ist, 1887. , 12 8 HUSBAND AND WIFE. The Husband. Dear wife, I am weary of seeing You toil every day for your bread, While I am a poor helpless being; •Tis often I wieh I were dead. You ne'er were accustomed to toiling, Your hands were once whita like the snow ; While I watch you work night and morning Yonr movements seem wearied and Blow. The Wife. Dear husband, give over your worry, My work se> ms like labor, I ween, Bnt I am never compelled, dear, to hurry Now I use Ferriman's Washing Machine. It lightens by two-thirds my labors. And makes all my garments so clean, That our clothes are tlio envy of neighbors Who adore Ferrinian's Washing Machine TO THE WIVES AND MOTHERS OF ASHBURTON AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC OF NEW ZSALA.ND. In prceenting to the public of Ashbuiton thernaivellous STEAM WASHER, I believe I am confer "ing a boon of incalculable worth on every wife aud mother m thia beautiful land, an whom that moßt important function of every household devolves, known (and hitherto dreaded) as washing clothes of every description. By the use of this Machine, tbis distasteful and slavish work is entirely relieved of its drudgery, and made a source of pleasurable exerci3i>. The unequallei qualities which it possesses of thoroughly bk »ci iag the clothes giving them an unparalleled whiteness, and its harmless action upon delicate and colored fabric 3, render it peculiarly useful and popular. 'I ha saving qualities of tho Maclfne ar quite m keeping with its other niTitoriouß features. Any person who will give it a practical test will be unquestionably convinced that from an ECONOMICAL stindpoint it is unsurpassed and unequalled. The consumption of fuel is materially reduced. The saving effected m this ite-n alone will m one year equal the price of the Machine. As it only entails tbe consumption of two-thirds the amount of Boap u«ed m the ordinary way of •washing, this item of ec norny is self-evident to every person. .The greatest saving, ho vever, m effected m the wear and tear of the clothes. Every intelligent individual knows that tin use of the washboard wears tin various fabrics more than anything else, and ts tho marvellous Pte Am Washer renders its use absolutely unnecessary, and thereby obviates almost entirety the necessity for " clothes mending," its saving qualities m thi^ particular will bo at once apparent ODd appreciated. Bnt all its savins qualities of a financial character are eclipsed, and dwindle into insic;nifisanco, when we take into consideration the frail, delicate, and weakly condition of thousands of wives and mothers who are forced to tax their energies and waste their limited strength injtha old way of washing; but who may, by the nse of its magical properties, do the work without any fatigue to their feeble bodies, and with infinite satisfaction and pleasure to their minds. This, more than any desire or expectation on the part of the inventor to make money out of the article, waa the prime object he had m view. From the marvellouß results obtained from its use, hewever, and the unbounded and emhnsiastic commendations from Ovurjone ' having used it since its introduction to the public, as the annexed list of names of persons who have purchased tho machine and are willing to testify to its merits, will fully attest, the advertiser his deemed it wise, m ord?r to place this incomparable article of household use more prominently before the intelligent ; people of tho district, to pive the postal address of a few of the buyers, m order that an " unprt j adieed and entirely impartial opinion of its intrinsic value, may be readily obtained by anyone desirous of getting such information from nctunl rsers and purchasers, who will nndouhtedly be best calculated to give a jaot «.!».». ~r iiu V3lUe.
