The second mate, cook, and five seamen went down with the vessel and never rose. Che captain, mate, and four seaman reached the surface after be ng carried down with the wreckage. They succeeded m reaching the top of the deckhouse, which was washed overboard by tbe soa before the vessel sank. To this they clung for fiv9 days and nights I without a particle of food or a drop of fresh water. Several times they were waehed off the house, and with difficulty | reached it again.
