Newman, one of the prisoners sentenced to death for the Mount Rennie outrage, has been reprieved m consequence of an exculpatory letter written by Duffy, who was among those sentenced to death. Hill also has been reprieved. Both his and Newton's sentences have been commuted to imprisonment m irons for life. The other four — Duffy, Boyde, Martin and Read — will be executed to-morrow morning.

Sydney, January 7
The Mount Rennie convicts were executed at Darlinghurst Gaol at nine this morning. About 150 persons were present. Read handed a written statement declaring the innocence of himself and those reprieved, except Donnellan. 'There was no demonstration m or outside the gaoi. Of the four men hanged Boyce died hardest, the struggles of the others being brief.
