CARRIAGE OF MAILS.
Sir Arthur Blyth, Agent-General for South Australia, is pressing the Post Office authorities for an early decision upon the question of the contract for the carriage ot mails between Great Britain and the Australian colonies.

The market rate of discount is 3^, being i l /& below the bank rate, New Zealand securities renisin at last quotations, namely, 5 per cent 10 40 JoaD, ioiJ^; A J A P er cent > 99M J inscribed stock, 95^. Adelaide wheat, ex store, is selling at 38s 6d, a reduction of 6d per quarter; New Zealand wheat, ex store, remains at 33s to 37s 6d, according to quality; Adelaide flour, ex store, 37s 6d. Australian tallow unchanged, namely, beef, average quality, 24s 6d ; mutton, 295. The stock of tallow m London to-day is 10,300 caskt.
