SPECIAL NOTICE. DURING the past twelve months five jewellers in Christchurch have either filed or been competed to close their shops, and now some of the old established firms are advertising “ selling off ” s .les to reduce their stock, and as they state they never had a sale, some for 10 years, others as long as 23 years ago,the only stock they can offer is only an aocomnlati n of old stock during all these year-, which is fit for nothing el-e but the melting pot. This clearly shows that the ’ public will no longer support the old system of- retail business. The ordinary retail dealers have to buy their goods fr m the wholesale merchants here, and then have to pay heavy eipenses, and au are obliged to charge exorbitant profits to try and cover all these extra expenses.
