SPECIAL NOTICE. DURING the past twelve months five jewellers in Christchurch have either filed or been compelled to close their shops, and now some of the old established firms are advertising “ selling off ” sales to rednoe their stock, and as they state they never had a sale, some for 10 years, others as long as 88 yean ago,the only stock they can offer is only an accumulation of old Stock during all these years, which is fit for nothing el*e bat the , melti ig pot. This clearly shows that the psblic will no longer support the old system of retail business. Ihe ordinary retail dealers have to buy their goods fr< m the wholesale merchants h-ro, and then have to pay heavy expenses, and so are obliged to charge exorbitant profits to try and cover all these extra expenses.
