LOCAL AND GENERAL.
A very successful scene rehearsal of “ False Colors" was held last evening. Another takes place on Monday night at 0 o’clock. We understand that Mr E. F. Wright, the proprietor of the Mo mi Somers coal mine, : has secured , an order for a supply to the ; Canterbury Flour Mills, When it is taken into consideration that the proprietor of the mills has exceptional advantages for securing supplies of coal from elsewhere, it will readily be seen that the merit of the Mount Somers article is rapidly finding recognition. A member of the Salvation Array (says an exchange) came across a drunken man lying in the street of a Melbourne suburb on Cup Day, and took a watch and chain from him. ><For fear,” as he naive’y informed the magistrates’ before whom he was brought up, “ that some dishonest parties might come along and steal it from the poor man.” This good Samaritan got 12 months for bis | thoughtfulness. Hallelujah ! Next time he sees a drunken man lying in the street he will probably “ pass by on the other side,” Virtue baa a hard time of it in this sinful, world. I
