IRRIGATION AND THE LAND ACT.

Melbourne, December 17. Chaffey Brothers have declined to tender for the irrigation of a block of land under the new Irrigation Act, in consequence of the amendments in that measure made during its passage through the Assembly. In his speech to Parliament yesterday, the Governor described the Irrigation Act as a measure which deals, with a subject of vital importance, and provides a settlement of the vexed questions arising out of the intermediate nature of riparian rights in Victoria.
