SACRED HEART SELECT SCHOOL

DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES. V The annnal distribution of prise* to the children attending the above School took place yesterday in the Oonvent Schoolroom, before a very large number of parent* and friend* Previous to the opening of the proceeding*, the visitors inspected, in one of the room*, some very creditable samples of fancy work by the pupils, in the shape of sewing, painting writing, artificial flowers, wax models, embroidery and orewel work. The exercise books ware almost as much admired, even by the lady visitors, as were the many pretty articles of wearing apparel, painting and ornamentation. General praieo was bestowed on the exhibition of girlish skill, and the good sisters who had toiled so hard tor achieve such satisfactory results were not forgotten in the flattering remarks of the oritloal inspectors. Entering the shaolroom, in whioh a stage had been erected with certain* and everything complete, onr reporter noted the neat, clean and cheerful appearance of the achoiara who assembled to take part in the ooncer' This commenc'd with a pianoforte duet “ Golden T nmpets ” bp Mines Hanoam and K. Henry ; song, Iv’e wandered in dreams,” Senior Class ; duet Slano and violin), “ Orasione” Misses cOabe ; trie, None remember thee," Missis M. and A. Henry and Muw A. Williams ; pianoforte duet *• The Morning Pearl,” Minses Wilkinson and McCabe; solo, Oansalma, Miss K. Henry In the oUs* singing Uisi McCabe accompanied In a style that woo’d not have disgraced a professional. Miss Henry’s singing, and in fact the singing all round, came in for hearty rounds of applause, and the instrumental selections by the Misses MoGabe were not allowed tv pass without the recognition they merited. These young ladies also gave two capital overtures during the intervals of the afterpiece, and Miss K Henry gave "Eileen Alaonah” in capital voice. The children’s concert concluded with the pathetic little drama " Germaine Cousin ” in which the diflerent parts were very creditably filled by the following young ladiea :—Lawrence Cousin, Mias K. McCmnel; Chariot Cousin, Mias L. McGrandel; Susette Cousin, Mss L. Williams; Jeanne Cousin, Miss M. Henty; Germaine Oonsio, Miss Ada Williams; Genevieve, Miss Wilkinson ; Bose, Miss MoGrandel ; Elisa, Mis 3 Brankln ; Catherine, Miss A. Hannam ; First Monk, Mias F. Adam 3 ; Second Monk, Miss A. Henry. —The children were dressed neatly and appropriately, were latter-perfect and showed that all had been - wall coached In their respective character.— Afrer the entertainment, which gave complete satisfaction, the Rev Father Chaatagnon proceeded to distribute the prizes to the successful scholars. Before doing so, however, he congratulated the children upon the success of their efforts, remarking (he their singing, playing, and acting, had pleased h m very much indeed.—He also gave them a few kindly words of advice for the future painting ont that if they did ever so well in a good cause their motto should a'ways be " Exoisior.” The rev gentlemen toe distributed some very handsome and useful prizes to those who had been successful, addressing the girls ss they came before him In words fall of encouragement and good advice. At the conclusion he called tor cheers for the sisters and visitors wh'ch were warmly given, and cheers for their pastor brought to an end a most eventful day for many little hearts.
