THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
The latest news of the frozen meat market comes as follows from London; Ihe frozen meat market continues in a glutted condition, and the rates at which carcases sell are extremely irregular. At the end of last week there were In store no fewer than 65,000 New Z ealand carcases, 3,500 Melbourne, and 20,000 River •'’late, besides 5,000 Falkland, or over 90,000 in all. Added to this, the Elderalie, from New Zea’and, which is just docking, has on board 26 000 sheep, it Is comeqnently fntile to hope fur any advance in rates for some time to come. The whole question of the frozen meat trade (as regards New Zealand} should be inquired into by an independent person or commission, and certain regulations framed on their advice. The present stae of affdrs is the result of shear bed management. At the annual roeatlng of the River Plate Frczan Meat Company on Wednesday, a dividend of 10 per cent was declared on the preference shares, and the Chairman pointed out that, despite the depressed stale of the market daring the past rear, the falling off iu t ie rates of New Zealand meat had been much greater than that in Kiver Plate.
