A special nieeiir g of the Ashburton County County Council was held at the Council Chambers this afternoon Present—Messrs W. C. Walker (Chairman), K. G. Wright C. W. Leadley, and D McLean The meeting was called for the purpose of passing a special order adopting the Local •Todies Loans Act. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr McLean, seconded b, Mr Leadley—‘•That this Council do irake a special order adopting the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, and that such special order be as follows, that is to say Special Order —ln pursuance and exercise of the powers vested in it by the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, the Counties Act, 1876, »nd the several Acts amending the same, the County Council of Ashburton doth hereby adopt the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans Act, 1886, provided always that the operation of the saii Ac<- shall be limited to a loan of £3500 which this Council proposes to borrow from the Government under the provisions of the Government Loans to Local Bodies Act, 1886, for ihe purpose of constructing a tramway frem the Mount Somers Railway Station to the Mount Somers Coalpit*, near the month, of the river Stour,” It was reso ved that a special meeting should be held on January 14, 1887, for the purpose of confirming the order.
