The Mount m lda Chronicle states that a heavy gale of wind swept over Macraes recently—a gale such as was never previously experienced in the district. At midday it was almost impossible to stand against the force' of the wind. A small building at the lower end of the flat was completely demolished, not a vestige of it being seen anywhere ; the roof of Mr Egger’s warehouse was lifted, and the roof of Mr Spain’s hotel narrowly escaped being destroyed. Several huts were unroofed ; and Messrs Flynn and Griffin had several acres of oats and potatoes blown entirely away. Fields were almost denuded of the soil, and all day there hung over them a heavy impenetrable cloud of dust. Many others have had their turnips ruined, and there is nothing for them but to (urn to and sow again. '
