SEA LIONS FROM THE AUCKLAND ISLES.
Recently Captain Fairchild, of the Q.SHineinoa, br mght over from the Auckland I .lands fou- «ea lions which he had captured there. These are now to be sent Home (we p eauuaa for some Zoological c ld 'tio: ) and with them some fifty cases of’n z n iiah for theirconsumption on the voyage. Writing about the teats in question, the Ifelson Colonist says Their peculiar |snd .awkward movements jhave caused some surprise, but the agility with which they have caught fish thrown to them has caused greater. We learn that a seven foot shark was caught near the French Pass, and was handed over to he eea Hods, when the smal'er of these held b ck, alio'rinse the largest the honor of deling wi'h his sharkship With hla powerful t-eth the sea lion seiztd the v ilture of the deep, which ta tarn a»'emp ed to urn hts tail with terrible tffrot, but its assailant dodged the blow, and t hen seised the shark by the throat, and killed It almost Inataady. The y u ger of the sea lions show signs that that they might be easily tamed.
