MELBOURNE WOOL SALES. Melbourne, December 1

Messrs Goldsbrough held their usual weekly sale this afternoon, the rooms being crowded with home and foreign buyers. A catalogue of 4800 bales wa‘s offered, for which there was a spirited competition, especially for all clear wools, which were free from burr. Earthy and wasty sorts were dull. Good greasy merino sold up to good greasy crossbred, io^d; good scoured wool sold up to ig}4d ; superior greasy lambs realised i4d. MELBOURNE MARKETS. The Manager ot 'the National Mortgage and Agency Company reports as follows of the local markets :—Wheat is quiet at 4s rod to 4s nd; barley slow of sale at 3s gd to 4s 3d ; New Zealand oats, feed sorts, no improvement, 2s 8d to 2s udjno material change in New Zealand oats (milling sorts), if anything slightly weaker, 2s gd to 3s; New Zealand oats, under bond, 2s 1 to 23 2d. POISONED SANDWICHES. An inquest was held to-day on the body of Fred Berendt, who ditd from the effects of eating sandwiches which had been poisoned for the purpose of killing rats. An open verdict was returned. ANOTHER EXHIBITION PROPOSED. In the Legislative Assembly this afternoon Mr Gillies announced that an International Exhibition would be held in Melbourne in 1888.

Mr Spadsford, the City Architect, died to day. The death is announced of Mr John Tait, the well-known sportsman.

THE TEETULPA DIGGINGS. Adelaide, December 1. Washing at Teetulpa has not given very favorable results. The diggers refuse to give information as to their earnings, but private advices report that very rich yields are being oblained. HARVEST PROSPECTS, Reports of the South Australian wheat crop are very favorable, and an increased estimate has been formed of the yield.
