ASHBURTON RACING CLUB

A general meeting■ of members of the Ashburton Racing Club was held on Saturday last. Present : Messrs Purnell ( n the chair). W. B. Denshire, D Thomas, D. Zander, an I R. Erie Hander Messrs McOwen, Jackson, aud Pattman we e elected members. A discussion ook p’ace with reference to the clause in the new racing rules, compelling all assumed names to be registered with and fees paid to the Canterbury Joekey Club, It was pointed out that several persons who had assumed names, and who raced only at the local meetings, under the new rule would be • hliged to register and pay the fee to the Canterbury Jockey Club. It was resolved 1 Teat this C ub suggests to the Canterbury Jockey Club that in country districts where . stabl’shed racing clubs exi t, it should be left optional with owners of horses residing in those districts who desire to race ucaer assumed names to register such names through the medium of the racing clubs of their respective districts in which case the fees payable under Rule 63 shall be paid to and become the property of such count y clubs ” —A committee meeting then took place, the same m-mhers being present. It was resolved that the recommendation of the Ground Committee to temporarily roof rhe grand stand be adopted. Business of a routine character was transacted, and the commit ee then adjourna l.
