At a meeting of the Caledonian Society a motion to wind it up was negatived, but as the financial position is not thoroughly satisfactory it was decided, to reconstruct the society. ~lh o Auckland Sunday School Uni n Industrial Exhibition was opened tp-day by Bishop Cowie, when 57 schools were represented by 2000 exhibits. An inq iry has commenced at Onehunga into tho late fire at Gibbon’s mill. Mr Cotter appeared for the Un on Insurance Company Ernest Kerubs, a former employee of J, S. * ibbons, deposed that Gibbons told him there was a £lO note sticking out if ho fired the building and and also showed him bow a candle could be arranged in a box to cause a fire at any period of time desired He refused to entertain the proposal Gibbons, in his evidence, emphatically denied the accusations, and intends to sue the company for the insurance. The enquiry is not concluded. Dunkdjn.
