Christchurch, November 1$ Two fires occurred in tbe country districts to-day. So toe spsrks from .an engine ignited a stack of linseed straw on tbe premises of tbe late Lmseed Oil Company at Rangiora. Several etscks belonging to Messrs NichoL'S and. J. Johnston, and a portion of the building belonging to Mr A. J. Carmichael, ware destroyed. The damage amounted to about £IBO. The building was insured for £75 in the Standard office. The stables attached to the Leeston Hotel were destroyed by fire to-day, and the hotel was saved with difficnlty. The stablea were insured for £2OO in the South British office. Tbe annnal review, before Colonel Whitmore, of tbe Volunteers of North Canterbury was held to-day in Begley Park, and passed off successfully. Thera ware 950 officers end men on parade The commandant complimented the officers on the Improvement in efficiency since last annual parade. He eatd that the Cadet Corps in Christchurch had long held pre-eminence throughout tbe colony, but other corps were making good headway now, and the Christchurch Cadets would have to look to tbetr laurels
