THE OLD SOLDIERS’ LAND CLAIMS COMMISSION
The subjoined "correspondence, which has been handed to us for publication, will show that the subject to which we drew attention in a recent issue, viz., the desirableness of facilities being afforded for the hearing and adjudication of the claims of any old ■eldiers or volunteers who may be resident in this district, has not been overlooked : “ Ashburton, Nov 6, 1886. The Hon the Minister for f’efencs ■ Sib, —I beg to enclose a letter from a constituent, whose claims deserve atiention and consideration, if correct I shall be much obi ged if you can inform me for him what steps steps be should take to establish his claim. I enclose a short extract from the Ashburton Mail, of November 2, which suggests that some reasonable facilities should be given to old soldiers residing in tbeßouth, possibly by the Commission holding a sitting in this Island, and I commend this subject from this point of view for your consideration. If necessary," I will see that an affidavit setting forth the claim mere formally shhll be forwarded.—l am, &c. f T 7. 0. Walkeb.” [Reply.] •To W. C. Walter, Bsq., M.H.R., Ashburton. Will decide on arrival at Christchurch. If there are many claims from Ashburton will sit on 9th December. W. Gudgeon.” In view of the foregoing, it will be seen that the proper course for clsituants »ill be to send in their claims forthwith, and as full information as possible thereanent, addressed to “ Major Gudgeon, Chairman of the Old Soldiers’ Land Claims Commission, Christchurch.”
