New Plymouth November 6.
Mr J. H. Neuman, father of tee local manager of the Union Shipping Company, died this morning. Mr Newman was one of the pioneer settlers here, and was at one time in business at Nelson. He »leo, in the early days of the colony, traded in a schooner between this place and the other settlements. Nelson, November 8. The stables at the furf Hotel, Stoke, were burnt down early this morning. They contained Thomas Harley’s racehorses, Marquis and Good Friday. The former was burnt to death, .and the latter seriously injured. Both were to take part in a country meeting to be held to-morrow.
