REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE Wellington, November 6. The Stark Purchase Committee have handed in their report. They fail to find any evidence of conspiracy. Tha rumors fl latiog about nfloting on the character of two Ministo’-s of the Crown they cour s ; der to he baseless, malevolent, susnioion unworthy of further notlca. Various land agents differ as to the value of the land, the estimate varying from £J.6,000 to £BOOO. The Commission find that on February, 1885, Stark had the land In the market for £7500, but when Government entered on it for the purpose gf survey in April, 1885,he withdrew ii, saying he expected to get £20.000 for it. They express that the Government had they treated privately for the land when in the ma-ket could have had it for £7500. The Commission consider the price paid for the land in excess of the value, but are of opinion there was no irregularity in the mode of conducting or completing the purchase. They acquit Mr Brewer, land pur -base officer, of any blame, and also Mr Seaman, Property Tax Valuer, of complicity ip any attempt to defraud the sove|oipeßt'
