Letters were read (1) Fn m the Colonial Treasurer’s ■ ffice forwarding precis ■ f “ Local Bodies Loans Act ” and •“ Govaromout Loans to Local Bodies ct.” (2) From the Premier’s office, forwarding copy of Order in Co mcil apportioning representation of contributory local authorities on Boards coisiituted under the Hospital and Chat liable Institutions Act.—The Mayor said that it had been suggested in view of the County Council being such a large contributor that that body should appoint the two representatives on the Central Board all wed the Borough and Ooanty of Ashburt n.— Matter deferred till a later stage. The Engineers reported as follows : Supply of water to paddock neir T affic Bridge : Tne Works Committee resolved that the water he turned into the paddock occupied by Mr Henry fr >m the side channel, near the riv r, and arrange that it should not flow into the old shingle pit. Tank for fi ling water cart: The Works Committee recommend that no action bo taken til forth r experience has been had of the warning of the pump now in use. We submitted to the Works Committee the impracticable character of the Domain boundary near the junction of Peter and Winter streets, as g»z tted, as a matter in which a definite arrangement ought to be made between the Council and the Domain Board. With reference, to clause 1, it was stated by Cr Bird that someone had aLeady taken action in the matter, the water having been led across the footpath, The Mayor said the Council should not overlook tampering with aide channels and footpaths, and it was resolved that the Engineer be instructed to endeavor to ascertain by whom the footpath was interfered with. BOUNDARY. With reference to the last clause in the Knginser’s report, it was resolved that the Mayor, Cr Bird, and the Engineer interview the Domain Board on ibe matter. /- FIRE BRIGADE MATTERS. Cr Sealy, Chairman of the Fire Brigade Committee, made a report with reference to matters which had bsen left iu his hands. Ha ment’oned that some small repairs were needed at the Fire Brigade station, and on his motion it was resolved that they be doi e. the proposed loan. Cr Thomas moved, pursuant to notic?— “ That this ‘. onncil makes ap lication to Government for a Joan of £3OOO, and that the revenue of the reserves be sat apart for Interest and sinking fund.” The M*yor seconded. Cr Wi liamson moved aa an amendment •' That it ia not desirable that the Council borrows any more money.’ Cr Harrison seconded. After a long discussion, motion and amendment were temporarily withdrawn, while a motion was proposed by the Mayor affirming the desirableness of taking advantage of the provisions of the Local Bodies Loans Act, but without specifying any amount to be borrowed. Cr Tucker seconded the motion. An amendment was p opoaed by Cr R,id, but lost, and the motion was 0!»ni d < r Harrison abstained from voting on the grou'd that the motion was irregular. Cr Tbom-s’s motion for the borrowing, of £3OOO was then brought forward. Cr Bird moved as au amendment that the amount to be borrowed he £2OOO. The amendment was not seconded, and lapsed Or Tucker moved that the amount be £2SOJ. Cr Roberts second-d The voting was as follows : For : Crs Tucker, Bird, Roberts, and Craighead, Again*’ ; l "rs Williamson, Sealy, Reid, and Harrison. Cr Thomas abstained from voting, and the Maj" r gave hie casting vote for Cr Tucker’s amendment Ic was resolved that a meeting be held next Monday to confirm tho resolution, and tho Clerk was instructed to take certain other steps necessary to comply with the provisions of the Act HOLE IN FOOTPATH. Cr Harrßon dr -w attention to a hole in the footpath near the Somerset Hotel Referred to Works Committee with power to act. CHARITABLE AID. With reference to the question of representation of tho Council on the Charitable Aid B ard, it was resolved .that the County Council be asked to nominate the members for the district. VALUATION. It was r. s lived to invite tenders for making ths valuation for 1887, and for the supply of dog collars. COMMITTEES. A vote of shanks was passed to the outgoing committees.
