A Fatal Fall. Auckland, October 29. John Swift, a laborer, who got injured on Tuesday by falling over an embankment at Northcote, died at the hospital to-day. No Dividend. At the Helensvuie Timber Company’s annual meeting tc-duy no dividend was dec ared, but the sum of £2613 was earned forward to credit. Supreme Court. New Plv mouth, October 29 At the Supreme Court to-day Thoa. G. Ho U wood was found guilty of horse stealing at Okiavra and was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment. Thomas De Norval was acquitted. In the other case against the accused, the Crown Prosecutor entered a nolle prosequi. A charge of cattle stealing against homas Ellem 1s now being proceeded w*th. Another Victim. Nelson', October 29. A fatal accident occurred lasr night. W. Rowell, tan old resident, lying acr es the tramway in a state of intoxioitioa, was run ov r by a bus and killed instantaneously . The Owen Gold Reefs. Mr Wright, mining surveyor, who recently returned f>om a visit 'o the Owen reefs, gives a very favorable account. Large quantities of quartzhave been proved and the prospects are very good. A Company is being formed in Nelson to procore crushing machinery, and the field is likely to be thoroughly opened up this season. Death of a Native M-H-R. Wellington, October 29. Puke Te Ao, M.H R. for the Western Maori District, died at Otiki yesterday evening. Ho had been ailing for some time. He was about 53 years of age. Probable Candidates. Henare Taihau, a relative of Tawhiao, and George Browne late Government agent at Auckland, are mentioned as probable candidates for the vacant seat. {Steamer AshoreGkeymouth, October 29. The Union Company’s Mawhera Is ashore on the north beach, a little above the north mole. She had taken the tug about 8 this morning, three hours before high tide, and was on her way in when by soma mischance not yet known, she went ashore. The tug was in the channel at the time, but it supposed the Maw era was not and after she got aground the tow ropes broke. The weather was fine and the bar quite smooth at the time. There is no danger to passengers, there being no sea whatever. The Mawhera lies nearer the north mole than the Wallabl. Found Drowned. Invercargill, October 29. George Gordon, manager of the Bayswater Estate, Otautau, was fonn.ddroffned in the Jacobs river to-day,
