CRICKET
THE ADSTRALI v.N CRICKETERS AT HOME. The London correspondent of the Evening Star gives a broad hint as to the causa of the non-success of the Australian cricketing team. He writes The Australian cricketers,” says the Pall Mall Gazette, “are thoroughly demo aiised, and their home-going will scarcely be ihe occasion of an ovation, or even of a banquet. Nc ; they return with their tails between .heir legs, beaten all round.” This criticism is severe, but not on the whole undeserved- The esuses which enabled a moderate team of Lord Londesborough’s to score 558 tuns in a single innings against the Aus ralians at Scarborough last week are well understood, though they have been good nsturedly ignored in print. It is sincerely to be hoped we shall never again have to chronicle such an ignominious collapse on the part of a colonial eleven.
