ASHBURTON STOCK SALES.
' Messrs H. Matson and Co. reportAt Ashburton on Tuesday our catalogue comprised entries from Messrs J. Bonnington, W. F. Allan, E. Thomas, James Wilson, J. Somerville, G. 0. Primmer; H. Mason, S. Brown, John O’Shea, W. T. Sutton, T. Hurley, 0. Leitoh, W. T. Lill, W. Wilson, T. Dalton, H. W. Parsons, J. S. Houston, D. MoKendry, J. Cochrane, S. MoClimont, G. Leadley, C G. Hawdon, Annett Bros.. J. Johnstone, and others. We sold 95 fat sheep at 11s 6d, 250 hoggets at 8s lid, 72 merino ewes at 4s, 207 4-tooth crossbreds at 7s 9d, 304 crossbred hoggets at ss, 195 ditto at 3s 5d to 6s Bd, 340 ditto at Bs, 164 merino ewes at 4s Id, 60 cull hoggets at 3s 2d, 250 crossbred hoggets at 6s Bd, 50 ditto at 3s 2d, 128 at 6s, 92 culls at 4s Id, 325 hoggets at 7s lOd, 151 merino ewes at 3s 9d, 215 hoggets at 6s Id, 895 hoggets at 8s 3d per head, and numberless other lots. Cattle—Only a limited entry and not much life. Messrs Miles and Co. report:—On Tuesday, at Ashburton Yards, the sheep which were penned far exceeded any previous market in point of number, and to this oversupply, as well as the backward state of pastures, must be attributed the decline in values which occurred. Fat crossbreds made up to 17s, crossbred hoggets sold from 7s to 9s Id, merino store wethers up to 7s. The numbers yarded for the day comprised 9012 sheep, 84 cattle, and 40 pigs, of which our entry included 3041 sheep for the Hon J. McLean, Messrs S. Mullins, J. Lloyd, J. Bayliss, C. Stewart, G. Burgess, G. Collinson, . Bonifant, J. Kutherford, and others. Our principal sales being fat merino wethers to 13s, lambs ss, crossbred hoggets from 5a 8d to 8s 6d, half-bred ditto to 9s Id, merino ewes, with 90 per cent, of lambs, to 4s &*.
