RUSSIA ON THE “GREAT POWERS."
The Moscow Moskowskija Wicdomosti, in an article discussing the possibility of an alliance between England, Germany, and Austria, declares that an AustroGermsn alliance could, under the most favorable circumstances for England, ba regarded merely as a guarantee of the peace of Europe, but in no way of the general peace. “On the contrary, continues the journal, “ the more Russia, as the English hope, la forced back out of Eastern Europe the more reason and opportunity will she have, if the peace of Europe should be preserved, to devote her powers to the execution of her task ■ Asia, which is etill far from completed, a circumstance whioa would appear to be of far greater Interest for England than Bulgaria and the other points which recently formed tho principal object of AngloRussian rivalry in Europe. Under such conditions, England would have to moderate her enthusiasm over the brilliant results of the Gasteln meeting, and, in view of the dangers now arising for her in every quarter of the globe, to thb-k ■eriously about coming to a good modus vivendi with Russia, and not create for herself fresh unpleasantness and new disputes.”
