EXCITING BOAT ACCIDENT.

An account of an exciting boat accident at Giive appears in the Napier Evening News of Saturday, from which we extract tho following .—“ A boat accident happened at Clive yesterday, which nearly proved fatal to two youngsters named Trawmen, a twelve and a girl aged nine. They got into a email boat, and went out on the river. The boat was either leaky, or they ran foul of the bridge or both ; anyhow, the boat was swamped, and drifted down the out-fhwing tide The boy, a pretty good swimmer, took hold of his sister, and swam with her a hundred yards or more. At length he became exhausted, and said to her ; : I can’t hold yon any longer. I’ll have tv let you go lam going to float on ray back. You must paddle with your hands like this. I doubt we’ll never ste mother any more.’ An alarm was fortunately given—just in time, as It happened; A boat was got near tho bridge, but there were no oars in it. By this time quite a number of people had gathered on the bridge, and the greatest excitement prevailed, the women folk wringing their hands and screaming loudly.” The acconnf concludes by describing how two men, attached by the cries of the women, arrived just in time to rescue the two youngsters;
