TEMPERANCE MEETING AT FLEMINGTON

Another of the pleasant Gospel Temperance meetings, which have become so popular at Flemington, was held last night in- the Schoolroom, which was well filled. The Rev A. Blake presided, and after devotional exercise, the programme was proceeded with. Mr E. Antrobua told his hearers “Why lie abstained an incident from the life of Dr Potter, N.Y. Mast r Samuel Anderson recited, in pood stylo, “ Water, pure water, for me." Hymn 60 followed, after which Florrie Prebble again surprised and delighted the audienoe, particularly the juvenile poi lion, hv the excellence of her recitation “ The Teetotal Dolls.” Mr Dakers, as usual, ebaimed everybody with his song, “ Bonnily grows the yellow grain,” for which he was encored, and complied with “ Drink from the well.” The Chairman next gave an excellent reading of “ Daft Dav e,” which was listened to very attentively. Mr Andrews (Ashburton) addressed the meeting in his usual telling style, applying his remarks especially to the young. Mr Harding also spoke on “ The Finanoi®! aspect of the temperance question,” his address being very instructive, particularly to farmers. James Glonville gave soma good advice to boys in his recitation “ Don’t drink a drop, boys,” and Mr Antrobus pleased the audience (notably the bachelor portion) with his reading “ How Peter popped the question.” Mr Dakers followed with another song, and afterwards hymn No. 7 was sung, during which a number of temperance periodicals were distributed. Mr Dnnn proposed a hearty vote of thanks to those who had contributed to the evening’s entertainment, to which Mr Andrews responded, and the pronouncing of the benediction concluded the Meeting.
