The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency held their first wool sales of the season this afternoon, when 1000 bales were offered, and 800 bales sold. The attendance of buyers was large, Continental firms being especially well represented. The prices realised were excellent, good greasy merino selling up to lid per lb, and good greasy crossbreds up to scoured merinos realised greasy merinos of inferior qualities are from i*£d to 2d higher than at the close of last season, and scoured merino to 4d higher. NEW HEBRIDES. Melbourne, October 8 In the Legislative Assembly last night Mr Gillies, the Premier, replying to a question put by Mr Mclntyre, stated the colonies cannot agree to submit to their Parliaments identical resolutions regarding the recidiviste question. He further expressed the belief that the result of the communications between the English and French Governments would be that France would finally withdraw from the New Hebrides.
