Messrs' H. Matson and Oo report as follows, nnder date 7ch last;—At Tattersail’s on Sat orday last wj submitted an increased entry, 90 horses of various descriptions constituting the catalogue; Included In this number was a line of 39 head from Kaikoura, chiefly three-year-old unbroken colts and fillies, the property of Mr G. F Bullen. These horses, a though not ofa particularly heavy stamp, and perhaps somewhat low iu condition, were yet of a class that readily found favor with buyers, as having been bred and reared, as it Were, ot the hill-topr, they apoeared to have grand constitutions, while their general conformation indicated a cunbiuaiion of strength and activity, making them especially suitable for town carrying ard general light farm woikv Our instructions from the owner were to dispose if the line to the best advantage, and as unbroken hones of any description have been a scarcity in the market of 1 te there was no lack of competition, every lot changing bands quickly at prices bet'er on the average than has been the rule for nme time. Values ranged from £8 ta £l2 for the must useful of the mob, £5 to £ll for a few light one?, and up to £l7 10a for broken horses suitable for ploughing purposes. With the exception of two inferior animals, which were unintentionally sent down, the consignment made »n average of £lO per head all round. In addition to buyers for horses of this class there were a good few farmers present looking for st >ck to increase the at an »th of their plough trams, and of any ho.-s s < ff ring suitable for this purpose very few went ont unsold, i e., where owners’ ideas of values were not exaggerated to s ich an extent as to be outside the range of fair market quotations. On account of various owners we sold 6 other unbroken three-year-old oolta at from £ls 10s to £2O. several teams of broken horses at from £l4 to £22 ; as also a large proportion of the most useful of the light horses offering. On the whole, wa consider the sale the most satisfactory held for some time
