MR GLADSTONE ON HOME RULE. London, Oct >bet 5
Mr Gladstone, receiving a deputation from Cork offering him the freedom of that city, declared that he continued in public life in order to settle the question oi Home Rule for Ireland, and that cause he averred would ultimately triumph. He hoped that this would come to pass shortly.
THE SPANISH REVOLT. Madkid, October 5
The military who were arrested for having risen in revolt in favor of a republic have been sentenced to death. The Cabinet, however, advised the Queen to pardon them.
TROOPS FOR BURMAH. Calcutta, October 4.
A force of 15,000 troops which is being" despatched to Burmah to quell the rebellion has started for Rangoon.
