The coffin, which had been placed close to the fireplace, was rh ped up as clean as with a razor, iho body w.is reduced almost to a cinder, while Eugene G.treau and F X Bauvin, who were stvndirg near, were instantly killed. Tha rest 1 f the patty— some six or seven in all—w. re rendered insensible by the shock, and it was not until late this morning th*t any of them recovered. AVhen they staggered oat and told the story to the neighbors it was hardly credited, but when fully realised the superstitions of the Ignorant peasantry were aroused, and net one would go near the house
