THE ACCLIMATISATION QUESTION.

The following, in continuation of previous correspondence, has been handed to us for publicist on : To 8, O. Farr, Esq , Hon Secretary Canterbury Acclimatisation Society.

Sir, —In reply to your letter of 2llnst, I can only ssy on behalf of the Ashburton Socie’y fiat w.? regret exceedingly tha* you and your advisers have thought it unnecessary to place before a meeting of your Society the application which we forwarded to you. It is qai eas much pro f as we required, to show cono’ulively how difficult it is for your Society in Christchurch to deal with any s’milar representation from Ashburton, and how necessary it it in our interest, that our Society should have a D s riot of its own, uncontrolled by a S r oety with totally dia inct interests Are wo to consideyour lo tor a forma! reply from your Society ? If not we would prefer, even though the end of the month is approaching, that it should he formally considered as we desired. As regards your personal wish to abandon the a titnte of sympathy which your conversation with me iast week led mo to believe that you took up towards our Society and i's aspirations acd to withdrew from what I believed t» have occurred, viz., that you suggested the formation of an Ashburton Society, I can only regret it, as it was at all events a more generous and worthy attitude for a gentleman who h a done so much for acc'imatisation, and hitherfct from no narrow local standpoint. I am yours fvt-bfully, W. C Walker, President Ashburton Aoclimitisation Society. Aahbuiton. Sept 23,1886
