TEMPERANCE MEETING AT WATERTON.
[communicated.] A very successful Gospel Temperance Meeting was held in the Library Hall, Waterton, on Wednesday evening, and was well attended. Mr Wheeler presided, and after devotional exercises, delivered a capital address on the evils of strong drink. The hymn “While the days are going by,” was them sung, after which Mr Bramley road “Betsy and 1 are out,” and h song by Mr Osborne was well received and heartily encored. Miss Timms recited “ Wallace and the King ” remarkably well. A quartet by Mr and Mrs and Master Wheeler and Mr Ford was wall rendered, as was also a reading by Mr Steel, of Aahbnrton. Miss Mary Williams recited “ the Market Basket,” and was loudly applauded, and Mr W. HaWllng delivereda good addresson “Moderation.” The piece which took most daring the evening was “ The Professor of Physio,” acted by Messrs Steel and Haiding, from Ashburton, who deserve every praise for the way In which their parts were taken. Mrs Wheeler in her usual excellent aty'.e sang “ The Loved Ones,” and was followed by Mr B. Gilmour, whose reading “ Frenchman and the Bata,” created much amusement. Mr Osborn’s song “ Drink Not,” the chorus of whioh was taken op in the audience brought a most enjoyable meeting to a close, and the people disponed highly pleased with their night’s amusement.
