DISCOURAGING NEWS FROM KIMBERLEY.
A telegram from the Bluff, published in to-day’s Press, gives she following news via Melbourne, under date September, 8; —Mr W. J. t/'Donnell. the explorer, has sent a letter to the Government Resident at Palmerston, declaring that the belief that a man with £IOOO worth of gold has been seen near Forest River, Kimberley, has no foundation in fact. He adds that hundreds of people ate returning disappointed, and much distress exists. Horses are selling for £o, and pack saddles are given away. A telegram from Cooktowa ntatea that the steamer Sikh brings seventy nine returning diggers from Kimberley for all porta. The diggers giro a fearfal account of the diggings. On the afternoon the Sikh left Port Darwin the Menmnir was coming in with 200 diggers from Cambridge Gulf, who were to await the next steamer to come south.
