The Hon Edward Stanhope has forwarded to the Agents General, for the Australian Colonies, a copy of despatch from Lord Lyons, dated July last, in which Lord Lyons narrates what had transpired during an Interview which he had with M. de Freyoinet relative to tbe New Hebrides, and the dctermiaa'ion of the French Government to resume the transposition of recidivlates to tbe Pacific. M, de Freyciuet In the course of the interview absolutely declined, in view of the rejection by England of the compromise offered by France respecting the New Hebrides, to consider the proposal that Government should modify their policy with regard to the recidivists question. Sic Graham Berry, has waited on Sir Robert Herbert, and protested against the long delay which occurr d in acquainting 'he Agentt-Genfrai f r t eColonies with the contents of the despatch from Lord Lyons. Sir R. Herbert apologised for the delay, which he assured Sir Graham Berry had arisen solely through the matter having been overlooked in the pressure of o*ber urgent public business. Sir Graham Berry insisted that d cisive action should be at once taken by the Imperial authorities with regard to the New Hebrides question Sir Robert Herbert, in reply, declared that it was impossible that any Government could consent to the cession of the islands to France. If the French Government retained their troops on the island it would be necessary that England should also establish a military occupation. It waa however, expected that the French Government would very shortly withdraw their troops, and afterwards propose the aopointment of a joint Anglo-French Commission to administer the Government of the Islands. Sir Graham Berry Is to have an interview to-morrow with the Sec etary of State for the Colonies on the New Hebr de» question. The appeal made by Dr Kenuion for donations towards the completion of the Adelaide Cathedral has awakened no public sympathy. No subscriptions have yet been received by the gent emen niminated by the Bishop to receive moneys Intended to be devoted to the Cithedral Fund, The sculling race between Beach and Teemer, in the final boat tor the Intercolonial Sweepstakes, was rowad over the full championship course in 22min 46iecs, which is the fas eat time on record. At the conclusion Beach received a perfect ovation. When he was presented af>er the race with the first prize of £I2OO Beach spoke a few words in reply to some complimentary remarks that had been made upon his rowing, in the coarse of which he expressed regret that Edward Haniau, ex-champion, had not competed for the stakes.
