A fire occurred last night in on® of F. H. Pickering and Co.’s stores, containing sulphur, lime, flour, and miscellaneous goods. The cause is supposed to be the flood water coming in contact with the lime. The Fire Brigade worked well under trying circumstances. The steam engine had to be worked a distance off, as the flood in the streets near the store would have extinguished the furnace. Estimated loss —Stock, £600; damage to building, £2OO. Insurances over all Pickering’s stores Buildings: £SOO, Kqsitable; £IOOO, National, Stock; £3500, National; £IOOO, I iyerpool and Globe. Re-insured Buildings: New Zealand, £IOOO.
