ASHBURTON—FRIDAY. (Before Mr D. Thomas, J P., and Mr T. Bullock, JP.) AN UNFORTUNATE INDIVIDUAL.

Robert Martin, a man who had undergone amputation of both legs, was charged with making use of threatening behavior towards Thomas Fox, and also with having resisted the police in the execution of their duty.—Thomas Fox testified that the accused had met him on the previous day. He had a tomahawk in bis hand, and threats- ed to clip a bit off witness’ skull. Later in the day accused threatened witness with a shovel. —P. Bertrand, F. Mainwaring, and A. Bean gave evidence —Sergeant Felton deposed to the violent conduct of the accused when arrested.—The accused was hound over to keep the peace for six months in two sureties of £25 each and himself in a like sum.—For resisting the police ho was sentenced to three days’ imprisonment, the Bench stating that they dealt with him thus leniently in consequence of his misfortune. If, however, he came before them again he would not get off so lightly. DRUNKENNESS AND OBSCENE LANGUAGE. Horace Quinton was charged with having been drunk and disorderly at the Bal'way Station, and also with having made use of obscene language. On the former charge he was fined 20s and costs, and on the latter ordered to be imprisoned for three days. The Court then rose.
