ENGLAND’S WELCOME TO AN AUSTRALIAN.
“ Sydney ” writes :—“ I sr'lved In London from New South Wales 14 days ago with my daughter aged 13 on a visit to the old country. I had the honor to come accredited as a member ot the Commission to act on behalf of the colony at the Colonial and Ind’an Exhibition, I believe I have done all that was proper in presenting my credentials to the exhibition authorities and leaving my address. The only result baa been to bring fonh from the Revenue Commissioners two formidable looking documents called income tax returns, with which my daughter and myself were served last evening. We are each given 21 days to fill up and deliver these returns, otherwise penalty. Beitfg a stranger in the land and not appreciating the attention of the authorities I shall be glad to know if any of my fellow colonists now visiting London have beon similarly welcomed, and if such casual visitors are amenable to the income tax."
