Sporting. ASHBURTON COUNTY HUNT CLUB NNUAL STEEPLECHASES. To be held on the RACECOURSE, ASHBURTON, On TUESDA Y, AUGUST 24, 1886. Patron, Hon J. McLean ; President, Mr E. 1. Handicap Hurdle Race, of 15 sovs, over eight flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6 : n high ; nomination, 10s ; acceptance, sa. Open to district horses that have been regularly hunted with the Ashburton Hounds. Two Miles. Hunt Club Steeplechase Cop(handicap minimum weight lOst), of 30 sovs (trophy or cash ; nomination, 1 sov ; acceptances, 10s ; open to all qualified hunters; amateur riders only. About three miles over fair hunting country. Selling Hack Race, of 10 eo»s ; post entry, 10s; no weight under 9st; the winner to be sold by auction immediately after the race, amount realised above 15 sovs to go to the funds of the Club. Three-quarter of a mile on the flat. 4. Maiden Steeplechase Plate, of g sovs, for horses that have never won an advertised steeplechase; weight for age ; entrance, 15s. Open to all district horses that have been regularly hunted with the Ashburton Hounds. About two miles. 5. Hunter’s Flat Race Handicap, of 15 sovs ; minimum weight. lOst; nomination, 10a ; acceptance, ss. Open to all qualified hunters. Horses before starting for this aco must qualify over a hurdle to the satisfaction of the Stewards Two miles. 6. Consolation Handicap Steeplechase, of 10 sovs ; nomination, 10s; acceptance free. One and a half miles.

RULES AND REGULATIONS . No entry will be received except on the condition that all disputes, claims, nnd objections arising out of the racing shall bo decided by the Stewards, or whom they may appoint ; their decision on all points connected with carrying out this programme to be final. 2. Grand National Steeplechase Rules adhered to when applicable. 3 A district horse shall mean any nrso that Ins been commonly resident in the Ashburton County from May 18, 1886, and up to the date of the forthcoming meeting, and owned by a person who has resided in tho said County miring the same period.—A qualified hunter shall mean any horse that has been fairly hunted, at least three times, with any recognised pack of hounds during the season 1886. 4. Five per cent, will be deducted from the gross of all moneys payable in accordance with this programme for expenses of tho course. 5. All Dominations and acceptances go to the funds of the Club. 6. An amateur rider shall be any person who has never, ridden for hire, and who is -a member of a recognised Hunt Club 7. Professional riders will be required to carry 71b extra, in all races to which Oioy are admitted, except in Hack Race. 8. Nominations, accompanied by fees, age, description of horse, and of rider, and a master of hounds’ certificate as to the qualification, must be in the hands of the Secretary not later than p.m. on Saturday, August 7. 9. Weights will be declared on Thursday, August 12. 10. Acceptances must be made to the Secretary not later than 9 pm. on Tuesday, August 17. S. SAUNDERS Secvatai y.
