THE NEW HEBRIDES.
Statement by Victorian Premier.
[REUTER'S TELEGRAMS COPYR’GHT ] Melbourne, August 18,
In the Legislative Assembly last night a formal resolution, approving the budget was voted. During the sitting Mr Gillies, Premier, made a statement to the effect that the Victorian Government deemed it unnecessary to ask the other colonies to renew the protest regarding the New Hebrides. The only satisfactory solution would be fixing a date for the Jwithdrawal of the French troops. The colonies, he added, were agreed regarding the question of influx of crimnals and prevention of contamination therefrom.
