Melbourne, August 11. Port Darwin reports from Kimberley continue to be of a moat conflicting nature, but the general impretslon gains ground that the value of the field has been ovsr- I estimated; Many recent arrivals startcl for the goldfields, but having met friends returning who reported the field to be unpayable, the majority decided to return also. About 300 men are now on the diggings, but It is considered doubtful whether they are making wages. They report that hundreds of men are on the ■way back. The men propose staying here In hope of obtaining work on the railway. The escort this week brought down 1500os of gold, including 392 from seventy-six tons of quartz.
